The time is near.

Tomorrow, we will meet in the Little Theater. Bring all of your notes, your score sheets, and your flow sheets.

Today is your last day to prepare and practice in class.

Your second set of constructives is due tomorrow at the end of the period.

Keep in mind, especially for the negative side, this is mostly about anticipating what the other team is going to present in the first constructive. You might not use everything you prepare, or you might use it in a different way. However, the most detailed part of the second constructive is the plan and/or the counterplan. Be as specific as possible.

Lay out all of the steps of your plan with explanations.

You want to express how the plan will remedy harms, why the plan is desirable, and how it is feasible.

Debates are about persuasion and evidence

Yes. You need A LOT of evidence in a debate. You also need to be persuasive. Don't forget about the methods of persuasion we discussed at the beginning of the course.

DO NOW: On YOUR BLOG, define pathos, ethos, logos, and appeal to authority.

Our first debates will be STANDARD POLICY debates

First Affirmative Constructive

1. Give a brief introduction to yourself and the topic.

2. State the resolution.

3. Define the key terms of the resolution and any other key terms that will be used in the case.

4. Present justification for change.

5. Present the plan.

6. Present the advantages of the plan and how the plan will solve the problem.

7. Briefly summarize the key ideas of the affirmative case.
