  1. Many issues are called into question by the actions of the Peanut Corporation of America. Firstly, its absolutely shameful that a company would act in such a manner, literally and knowingly endangering the lives of people for no other reason than greed or convenience. The fact that such an attitude exists in our economy is sickening. It is unfortunate that the only punishment applicable is 3 years in prison for knowingly shipping contaminated food. Such an action is responsible for the spread of salmonella to 575 individuals and the needless death of 8 people. The facts of the case are enough to make someone sick in their own right. Such activity is inexcusable and is unnecessary for a market economy to thrive.

  2. I believe that this was a terrible act for the PCA to do because they ended up killing people. The worst part about this is they knew that the peanut were contaminated but they stilled decided to ship it out. I think that if they weren't so careless and greedy to ship out product so quickly that this problem could have been solved without hurting lots people.

  3. I think this is wrong to do, to send out tainted goods and have knowledge of it. I believe it is moraly wrong to have knowledge of something that can potentially make someone ill or even kill a person who consumes that product. The company should take full responsiblity for sending out the bad peanut butter (which will result in 3 years in prison) and I belive they desurve it due to the amount of people that have become ill.

  4. I believe that this is clearly wrong on the processing plant's side. I feel as if that company should be required to take full responsiblity for the deaths and those infected. The economy is in shambles because of the all the corruption within business and this is a pretty clear example of such corruption. Federal law should be established so that this sort of situation cannot happen and so that companies who break the law get punished far more severely. -Justin Carroll

  5. not only is this story horrifying about how little some people care about others health it shows a major blundered that should not be over looked.their punshiment is only 3 years in prison which is upsurd. considering that it could lead to death and has been linked to 8 deaths so far. this is murdered brought on by either greed to sell or neglect that the company should have treated. it almost as if they are selling poison to incocent people. the FDA should be able to crackdown harder on companys such as these and make an example so something this pointless and horrible will never happen again.

  6. This article calls into question the acutall practicality of the laws put in effect to prevent such incidences. However, these laws are ovbiously not as frivilous as they may be presented in this article, as such "outbreaks" are not a common occurance, or this outbreak would not have been so publicized. This article also shows brings up social issues, as the people responsible for keeping their products safe were ovbiously not very effective.

  7. Nikki Donnelly-I believe that no matter how big or small a lie may be, it will always come back to bite you in the end. It may be directly or indirectly, but it will always come back to haunt you in some form. The example is the peanut processors. They thought that they could get away with what they believed to be a small lie, but it turned into something more and the truth was revealed to show them for what they really were. Their thought process was extremely poor as well. Unless a mutation was active in every one of their customers, the peanuts were bound to be recalled anyway so why waste all the trouble of shipping them out in the first place?

  8. This news is scary and hopefully people will quickly become aware in order to further prevent more sickness. Those that were knowledgable to the samonella in the food products should be fired, it is a major violation not just to their companies but to the American people. Strong actions should be taken such as certain products being taken off the rack if within the date range of when this samonella outbreak was. It is confirmed that over 575 people are sick across 43 states, even at a Canadian province. The food products that have been reported is unfortunatley somewhat popular food and brands, such as Luna bars. The government should take control and make these companies pay, they are infecting the American people.

  9. With the shipping of salmonella - tainted products, many issues developed for a peanut processor in Georgia. This became a major legal issue, because it is illegal to continue to export products with the knowledge of them being "unsafe." After inspecting the products, the FDA found reason that the plant had known about the salmonella poisoning of the peanuts and it became a very serious matter. This also became a social issue, because after the products were exported and sold more then 575 people were greatly affected by it through some sort of illness, and even death in the US alone. The products have been said to have been sold in 20+ other countries.

  11. There are many issues with this event about salmonella. The laws we have are effective because salmonella outbreaks don't usually happen so that means the law is working. Workers and factories should really be more strict with the cleanliness of workers and items. This will also effect the industry because now because of this outbreak there will be a decrease of sales of the company.

  12. For the PCA to still be selling peanut butter it is a bad thing to do because 575 people are being diagnosed with salmonella and some people are even dieing from it. I think that they should be checking there products before they send them out for shipments to be selling to the whole country.

  13. This issue affects people socially because many people are getting sick and dying. It is illegal to sell tainted food according to the FDA and the company, peanut processor, was well aware that the food tested positive for salmonella. This only shows that companies will do anything to recieve money. This article doesn't show the political affects.

  14. First off I think that this proves that there is something wrong with the way that FDA monitors food. They should be much more tightly with the companies that are sell food to prevent out breaks such as these. We live in a country where people are willing to do anything for money even if that entails hurting other people and it is the job of the FDA to prevent those people that could have negative intentions from hurting other people. Though this shows a lack of morality on the part of those that are selling the peanut butter; but it is the responsibility to the government to expect people to be greedy and heartless. Their job is to defend against these forms of people in such away so the evil intentions of few wont hurt us as a nation.
